Piper Shores Announces New Board Members and Sets Course for 2007 and Beyond

Local Leaders Continue Tradition of Excellence at Maine’s First and Only Lifecare Retirement Community

Scarborough, Maine, January 23, 2007 – Piper Shores, Maine’s first and only lifecare retirement community, today announced the addition of three newly elected members to its Board of Directors. Since 1995, the Board has led the community through its continued development while establishing Piper Shores as a unique New England retirement option for seniors.

New Board Members recently elected at the Annual Meeting in October 2006 include:

James Donovan – Associate Vice President of Medical Affairs for Maine Medical Center

Mary Keysor – Director of Food and Nutrition Services at Maine Medical Center

Patrick O’Reilly – Tax Accountant with Macdonald Page & Company

As Maine’s only lifecare community, Piper Shores residents enjoy active, independent lifestyles with guaranteed priority access to on-site assisted living and skilled nursing care, whenever they may need it, for the same predictable monthly payment.

“Our Board of Directors is a phenomenal group of active, intelligent community leaders who are deeply committed to making Piper Shores the best it can be,” said Deb Riddell, Executive Director of Piper Shores. “We are pleased to welcome James, Mary and Patrick to the Board and look forward to working with them on several very important initiatives.”

In 2007, the Board will be working to understand and accommodate the next generation of retirees. The so-called “Silent Generation” (born between 1925 and 1945) will enter retirement with different needs and abilities than the World War II Generation that preceded them. Together with Piper Shore’s management and marketing team, the Board looks to develop communication strategies, on-site services and amenities that will appeal to this next generation of retirees.

The Piper Shores’ Board will also undertake the creation of an endowment fund to help provide assistance to residents who may find themselves in need while living at Piper Shores. Funded by residents, for residents, the fund seeks to insure that, as a charitable organization, Piper Shores continues to be a community that is affordable for a broad segment of the senior population.

Additionally, Piper Shores has begun work to obtain accreditation from CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities), the only accrediting body for continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs). CARF-accredited service providers enjoy recognition among an international community of persons served, peer facilities and programs for superior standards of care and excellence in outcomes. The yearlong process is well underway with plans for completion in 2008.
